US entrepreneur, former reality TV contestant and erstwhile political candidate Raj Bhakta bought the 525-hectare (1300-acre) farm in 2007 and joined forces with consultant master distiller Dave Pickerell, formerly of Maker's Mark to establish the brand. The enterprise initially operated as a bottler of rye whiskeys of various ages imported from Canada, with the first products released in 2010.
