Vineyard 29 Ceanda Estate Cabernet Sauvignon St Helena 2023

Vineyard 29 Ceanda Estate Cabernet Sauvignon St Helena 2023

Vineyard 29 Ceanda Estate Cabernet Sauvignon St Helena 2023

Vineyard 29 is located a few miles north of the town of St. Helena in the western foothills of the Mayacamas mountains with an address that mimics the name of the winery (2929 St. Helena Highway North). This “bench land” is some of the most coveted terroir in this particular part of the valley; Grace Family Vineyards are immediate neighbors and several other premium vineyard sites are also located nearby including Colgin’s Tychson Hill property and the tiny one-acre Bure Vineyard.

St Helena is one of the Napa Valley's key subregions, located in the shadow of the 4,345 feet (1,325m) Mount Saint Helena, from which the small town takes its name. The town and its vineyards are located where the valley narrows substantially, about 15 miles (25km) north of Napa. At this point, the mountains of the Vaca and Mayacamas ranges close in on one another, pitting Spring Mountain and Diamond Mountain in the west against Howell Mountain in the east. St Helena's prestigious neighbors, Rutherford and Oakville, lie just to the south.

The 2023 Vineyard 29 Ceanda Cabernet Sauvignon is deep ruby with some purplish hues on the rim and deep ruby; smells ripely fruited, smells sweet and smells of holiday spices. These scents include blackberry, boysenberry, dark cherry, dark plum and dark mulberry with additional tones including cinnamon, clove, mocha and dark chocolate. Ripe but simultaneously bright, this wine tastes like blueberry, boysenberry, blackberry, plums and finishes with a pronounced earthy/chalky character and notes of dried herbs including bay leaf. For a robust vintage in Napa Valley, the tannins are already well tamed, rounded their lightly gravelly texture persists with a gentle grip, felt more on the front of the palate than the back. Lets pair this with an eye of round steak and a BBQ.
