Mayacamas Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 1982

Mayacamas Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 1982

Owned by the Travers family from 1968 until 2013, Mayacamas has been known for making lean, balanced, long-aging wines for more than 40 years. Many vintages need a decade or more of cellaring to really find their greatness. These wines bring one back to the old days of California wine, when wines were allowed to age gracefully and develop in the bottle. Winemaker Bob Travers, included in the Wine Spectator's roster of Napa "mavericks" (July 2002), always maintained his focus on making small quantities of premium wine, destined for a long life. His red wines usually require at least a decade to reach their full potential, some vintages much longer.

Mayacamas - Cabernet Sauvignon is a highly esteemed wine from the historic Mayacamas Vineyards, located in the rugged hills of Napa Valley, California. Known for its classic and age-worthy style, Mayacamas Cabernet Sauvignon is crafted with a deep respect for traditional winemaking techniques. The vineyard's high-altitude terroir, combined with the unique volcanic soils and cool climate, imparts distinct characteristics to the wine. This Cabernet Sauvignon is celebrated for its balance, complexity, and ability to age gracefully over decades.

Deep garnet red with a rich, inky core. The bouquet is intense and multifaceted, offering a mix of dark fruits such as blackcurrant, blackberry, and plum. These primary fruit aromas are interwoven with notes of dried herbs, cedar, graphite, and a touch of eucalyptus. Hints of tobacco, leather, and spice from oak aging add further depth and complexity. On the palate, Mayacamas Cabernet Sauvignon is full-bodied and well-structured, with firm tannins and bright acidity. Flavors of dark berries, cassis, and cherry are complemented by nuances of dark chocolate, espresso, and earthy undertones. The wine has a robust yet elegant texture, with a long, persistent finish marked by mineral notes and subtle oak spice.
