Inglenook Rubicon Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2008
Inglenook is a historical property in Rutherford, of California's Napa Valley. It was established as a vineyard in 1871 and has been owned by filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola since 1975. Today, it makes a premium range of wines from classic Napa varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Zinfandel.
Upheld by the Coppola family’s devoted stewardship, Gustave Niebaum’s legacy thrives at Inglenook. Wines, crafted with artistry and respect for the land, echo over a century of winemaking prestige.
The Coppola family's bond with Inglenook is not just one of ownership, but of deep, personal resonance that dates back to their first bottle shared at a family meal. It is a story of renaissance and stewardship, where Francis Ford Coppola's vision to restore the estate's legacy has been infused with the same passion and diligence that characterizes his films. Each vine planted and bottle produced at Inglenook is a chapter in the Coppola family narrative, a testament to their commitment to excellence and the art of winemaking. At Inglenook, the Coppolas don't just craft wines; they cultivate a family legacy that harmonizes with the land's natural grandeur.
At the helm of Inglenook's winemaking since 2011, Philippe Bascaules brings a spirit of daring innovation matched with a respect for tradition. Drawing on his esteemed experience from Bordeaux, Philippe arrived in Napa Valley with a vision to marry Inglenook's storied terroir with contemporary winemaking excellence. His philosophy intertwines adventure with the art of finesse, pursuing wines that whisper complexity and mystery rather than shouting power. For Philippe, the essence of a great wine lies in its enigmatic soul—each bottle is a narrative of Inglenook's land, crafted to captivate and inspire through aromatic allure and a gracefully structured journey.

Even though 2008 was not the greatest Cabernet vintage, Rubicon has produced one of the most delicious bottlings of the year. Mainly Cabernet Sauvignon, with a little Cab Franc, Petit Verdot and Merlot for complexity, it’s so delicious now, you might want to finish off the bottle. Soft and velvety, it appeals with blackberry and cherry pie filling flavors, and the oak appliqué is perfect. Combines the ripeness of this central Napa Valley vineyard with impeccable winemaker taste, resulting in a gorgeous wine.
92 Wine Spectator
Rough-hewn, dense and chewy, with a complex earthy edge to the dried berry, sage, underbrush and cedar flavors. Full-bodied and well-proportioned, ending with a loamy earth aftertaste. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Merlot. Drink now through 2019.
