Gianni Voerzio Martini Barolo Cerequio 2018

Gianni Voerzio Martini Barolo Cerequio 2018

Gianni Voerzio Martini Barolo Cerequio 2018

Voerzio Martini excels with a forward, juicy style that represents some of the exuberance favored by founder Gianni Voerzio, but tempered by a good bit of freshness to balance things out. The wines are forward and open-knit, not to mention very easy to like. The Monvigliero in particular is a stand out.

Critical Acclaim

93 Wine Advocate

The Voerzio Martini 2018 Barolo Cerequio reveals two main themes on the bouquet. The first is a fruity side with purple and black berries, and the second is a savory side that comes forth as tar, crushed stone and licorice. That's the power of the Cerequio MGA, and in this case, it is delivered in a rather unabashed manner, given the ripeness of fruit in this growing season. A few years back, I mentioned Voerzio Martini as a name to watch in the future. Now, with new fruit sourcing in Cerequio and Monvigliero, there is even more reason to watch this space.

93 Vinous

The 2018 Barolo Cerequio is rich, creamy and beautifully layered, especially within the context of the year. Bright red-toned fruit, sweet floral accents and silky tannins - all signatures of this site - come together effortlessly. Rose petal, cinnamon and orange peel accents lend brightness and lift throughout.

91 James Suckling

I like the clean wild strawberries and raspberries on the nose, together with clean mineral notes and a hint of spice. Medium-to full-bodied with soft, vanilla-coated tannins and a medium finish. Best from 2023.

91 Wine Spectator

This red starts out round and polished, with vanilla and toasty oak shading cherry, raspberry, eucalyptus, leafy underbrush and tar flavors. The tannins emerge, leaving a compact finish and chalky sensation. Best from 2026 through 2040.
