Mercenario Tinto 2020 from Bodegas Augalevada is a red wine made from the Caíño Longo, Caíño da Terra, Brancellao, Espadeiro, Sousón de Ribeiro VE grape varieties, Spain. Behind this project we find Iago Garrido. This red wine is natural biodynamic.
In the 18th century, it belonged to the Pazo de Riobó, located just 500 meters away. It covers 4 hectares and has remained undivided to this day.
They began working on the vineyard in 2009, and their first Ollos de Roque wine was released in 2014. In 2016, Ollos de Roque was no longer possible due to the loss of all the grapes. Therefore, they began producing Mercenario wines in both white and red.
Iago has had good role models such as José Luis Mateo (Quinta da Muradella) and Xosé Luis Sebio (Vinos de Encostas) . His wines have a personal touch beyond the Ribeiro profiles.
It is worth noting that since they began working in their vineyard, they have only produced wine using Biodynamic methods . In 2013, they were awarded Demeter certification, making them the only winery in Ribeiro certified with this seal.
