Dominique Lafon Volnay 2023
Dominique Lafon Volnay 2023
Always searching for new challenges, Dominique Lafon started his own label - separate from the family domaine - in 2008 and currently works approximately 4.5 hectares in Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Volnay, and Beaune. Legally, he is considered a négociant but this is only because Dominique shares space with another winemaker. (Think of it as a custom crush facility, but in Burgundy.)
“I didn’t wish to vinify at Domaine des Comtes Lafon as I wanted to try to keep a distinct separation between the two. With my own label I can build on what I learn and I can afford to experiment. I am constantly learning. If I had to define the style of the DL wines, I would say that the wines have a bit more tension than the wines of Domaine des Comtes Lafon. The élevage on the wines is shorter and the plots are mostly located on the upper part of the hillsides, which gives the wines an interesting minerality and tension.”
Critical Acclaim
94 James Suckling
Perfumed and floral with delicate notes of cherries, dried strawberries, flowers and earth. The midweight palate has fine-grained tannins and a plush, rounded mouthfeel that balances minerality and high-toned fruit. There's so much early-drinking pleasure here with great aging potential. Delicious. Drink or hold.
