Casa Piena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2013

Casa Piena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2013

Casa Piena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2013

This wine displays a deep purple hue with a dark garnet halo. Rich aromas of hibiscus reduction, toasted cedar bark, raspberry compote, wild violet, and eucalyptus oil emerge in waves. The palate experience is noticeably darker suggesting notes of bittersweet dark chocolate, star anise, macerated blackberries, spearmint, flint, and baking spices. The trajectory of this wine is absolutely seamless, and the tannin is so finely integrated it drinks more like a wine that has already been cellared for 5-7 years.

Critical Acclaim

94 Vinous

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon from Casa Piena is just as impressive as it has always been. Rich, ample and powerful, 2013 exudes class. Sweet tobacco, herbs, menthol and licorice wrap around a core of intense red fruit. The flavors are bright, vibrant and intense throughout, but my sense is that 2014 is still improving. This is a terrific showing from Casa Piena and winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown. (AG) 94+

92 Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate

This wine emerges from the southern Yountville sector of Napa Valley from a vineyard on State Lane. Dense purple with notes of blueberry and blackberry liqueur, spring flowers, graphite and licorice. The wine is impressively deep, medium to full-bodied with substantial tannin and structure, befitting most classic 2013s. Give it another 2–3 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 20+ years.
