A.H. Hirsch 20 Year Old Bourbon Red Wax Finest Reserve
Distilled in spring 1974 at the Pennco Distillery Schaefferstown, Pennsylvania. This limited release AH Hirsch 20 Year Old Bourbon Finest Reserve Red Wax is considered to be one of the greatest bourbon whiskies.
There are very few bottles left anywhere in the world and even fewer in immaculate condition, with perfect wax seal and labels.
The whisky was originally commissioned by a local farmer, A Hirsch. Hirsch never bottled the spirit, sold the entire lot to Gordy Hue (famous for "inventing" Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve).
Gordy originally had a deal with the Van Winkles to bottle and sell Family Reserve. When they ran out of the legendary Stizel Weller "juice" he was on the lookout for a high quality alternative. This is when the AH Hirsch Finest Reserve Bourbon label was born.
Most of the stock was transferred into stainless steel tanks to keep it at an age statement of 16 years. Some, however, were matured for longer in barrel and subsequently bottled at 18, 19, and 20 years old. This is the 20 year old release.
